H.J. Heinz Co. recalled some infant food in China after regulators found excessive levels of lead affecting more than 1,400 boxes.
The recall is the latest food scare in China, where both foreign and domestic companies have grappled with quality and contamination issues.
The Pittsburgh company, which sells products such as ketchup and baby food globally, recalled four batches of the infant cereal Heinz AD Calcium Hi-Protein Cereal in China, a spokeswoman for Heinz said Monday. Heinz said in a written statement that the raw ingredient used for the product was found to “exceed the allowable limit for lead.”
The company didn’t release further details about the ingredient.
