Hong Kong shares ended barely higher Friday, taking a breather after decent gains on the first trading day of the Year of the Snake, as investors waited for China’s markets to reopen next week.
The blue-chip Hang Seng Index rose 31.31 points, or 0.13%, to 23,444.56 after narrowly trading between 23,284.05 and 23,446.77 during the session.
Turnover totaled 46.67 billion Hong Kong dollars (US$6.02 billion), up from HK$23.09 billion Thursday, but remained lackluster when compared with HK$65.74 billion on Feb. 8. Hong Kong’s financial markets were closed from Monday to Wednesday for the Chinese New Year holiday.
