Foxconn Freezes Assembly Worker Hiring at China Factories

Foxconn Technology Group is freezing hiring of assembly-line workers in China because of a high employee return rate following the Lunar New Year holiday there, a spokesman said.


The Taiwan company, which is formally called Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., hasn’t set an expiration for the freeze, spokesman Louis Woo said on Wednesday. But he said Foxconn plans to keep its total workforce steady at about 1.4 million.


Mr. Woo said more than 90% of workers returned to their jobs following the Lunar New Year break. China’s legions of migrant workers customarily return home during the Lunar New Year and factory managers often face difficulties replacing those who decide not to return.
