Growth in China’s service sector slowed to a five-year low in January, an official survey showed Monday, another sign of stuttering momentum that could deepen investors’ concerns about emerging markets around the world.
The National Bureau of Statistics of China said the official nonmanufacturing purchasing managers’ index fell to 53.4 in January from 54.6 in December. The reading on Monday was the lowest since December 2008, although it was still above the 50-point level that separates growth from contraction.
