All eyes will be watching for signs of détente over North Korea’s nuclear-weapons program when Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao becomes the highest-ranking among China’s new leadership to visit Pyongyang this week.
Mr. Li’s visit, as announced in a brief statement by China’s Foreign Ministry, begins Thursday. The ministry didn’t specify whether Mr. Li would meet North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, during the trip, though it’s likely he will after Chinese President Xi Jinping met a senior North Korean envoy in Beijing in May.
