Taiwan Recalls Philippines Envoy Over Shooting

Taiwan’s government is recalling its envoy from the Philippines and has stopped processing labor applications for Filipino workers on the island, following the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman by the Philippine Coast Guard in the disputed South China Sea last week.


The diplomatic row comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region over rival territorial claims in the South China Sea. China, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei all have competing claims to parts of the sea.
